"There Is Something about the outside of a Horse
That Is Good for the inside of a Man."

(we think that goes for women and kids too!)

Lesson Program

The lesson program is designed for individuals wanting to learn and develop their horsemanship skills in a safe, comfortable and supportive environment. Whether you choose English or Western riding, the lessons teach a broad range of equitation skills to match the chosen riding discipline of the student. Skills will range from the basics of all three gaits, beginning techniques of western horsemanship, hunt seat, jumping, dressage or pleasure riding.  We don't just tell you "what" to do, but also the "how's" and "why's".  Students soon realize that horses have just as much to teach as the instructors do!  You may choose to ride your own horse or a school horse will be assigned according to your abilities.

Adult Camps

Adult Camps are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday mornings 9am-noon.  Camps will include a one hour riding lesson.  The balance of time is spent on horse handling, horse psychology and training methods.  Information will also cover rider awareness and how we influence a horse's behavior.  These camps will prepare you for weekly group lessons held in the evenings and on Saturday. Please see our 2010 Calendar of Events for our current adult camp dates. The camp fee is $175 per camp.  Please feel free to email info@GreenbriarRidingAcademy.com or call 319-854-7115 with any questions you may have, or to sign up for one of our camps.

Summer Day Camps

Our Summer Day Camp program is designed to develop the necessary skills to safely ride and/or own a horse.  There are five levels of achievement in our program. Each level teaches additional information in these four categories: riding skills, horse handling skills, equipment knowledge, and horse health.  The student's riding skills are developed during the hour of riding lessons each day. Horse handling skills and equipment knowledge are taught with a supervised hands on approach through grooming, saddling, bridling, heeding and feeding of an assigned horse. Each level has its own manual covering the knowledge needed to pass that level. A certificate is awarded upon the completion of each level.

Pee Wee Pony Camp Pee Wee Pony Camp is an introductory riding camp for children ages 5, 6, & 7, in a small group setting.  The students will learn safety around the ponies, on the ground and in the saddle.   The emphasis is on having fun and learning the basics as they learn to interact with the ponies.

The one week camps are held during the summer months. Please see our Day Camp Schedule for more information.

Horse Training

Greenbriar also offers horse training for horses and people wanting to bring along a young horse or teach an older horse new skills.  We work with the owner to develop an appropriate training plan for each horse.  Please contact us for more information on horse training.

Congratulations to our recent Trainer Graduates!

We are so proud of how far they have come in our program and how much they have accomplished with their horses.
