What to Wear to Your First Riding Lesson (And What You Don't Need to Worry About)
One of the most common questions we hear from new riders is:
"What am I supposed to wear?"
The good news is, you probably already have almost everything you need!
Your first riding lesson isn't about having fancy riding clothes or all the latest gear. It's about getting comfortable around horses, learning something new, and having fun. We'll take care of the rest!
The Essentials
For your first lesson, we recommend keeping it simple.
Here's what you'll want to wear:
Long pants, such as jeans or leggings
A comfortable shirt you can move easily in
Layers if the weather is cool
Hair tied back in a low ponytail or braid so your helmet fits comfortably
That's it!
Our lessons take place in an indoor arena, so you don't need to worry about muddy footing or dressing for rain. We ride year-round in a comfortable, covered environment.
We Have the Boots and Helmet Covered
One thing you do not need to worry about is buying riding gear before your first lesson.
Greenbriar provides properly fitted riding helmets and riding boots for every rider, whether you're joining us for an Intro Lesson or you're enrolled in our regular lesson program.
We want your first experience to be as easy as possible. You can simply show up, get fitted for your equipment, and focus on enjoying your time with the horses.
When Should You Buy Your Own Gear?
Many riders choose to purchase their own helmet and boots after they've settled into lessons and know horseback riding is something they'd like to continue.
There is no rush!
As riders gain experience, they'll also begin discovering which riding discipline they enjoy most. Some riders choose English, while others fall in love with Western riding. Once you've found your favorite style, you can choose boots designed specifically for that discipline.
Until then, we'll make sure you have everything you need.
