Why Horse Camp Becomes the Highlight of Summer (Every Single Year)

Ask a Greenbriar camper what their favorite part of summer was, and chances are they'll tell you about the horse they rode.

Every year, we watch campers arrive on Monday a little nervous and unsure of what to expect. By Friday, they're walking confidently through the barn, laughing with new friends, and already asking when they can come back.

So what makes horse camp the highlight of summer, year after year?

Bronco Camp Builds the Foundation

Every camper begins their journey in Bronco Camp, our foundational safety camp. Campers are grouped by riding experience, so whether they're meeting a horse for the very first time or have ridden before, instruction is tailored to help them feel confident, supported, and safe.

Throughout the week, Bronco campers focus on the fundamentals that every rider needs before advancing to higher camp levels.

Riding Focus: Building balance, position, and rider awareness while learning to ride safely and confidently.

Horsemanship Focus: Learning how to feed their horse and practice safe, responsible barn routines that create a strong foundation for life around horses.

These skills prepare campers for future riding while helping them gain confidence both in and out of the saddle.

More Than a Week at Camp

Horse camp isn't just about learning new skills. It's about building confidence, making friends, and creating memories with incredible horses.

Campers celebrate each new accomplishment, encourage one another, and often leave with a favorite horse they'll remember long after summer is over. Spending their days outdoors, caring for horses, and trying something new makes for an experience that's hard to match.

The Beginning of Their Equestrian Journey

For many campers, Bronco Camp is just the beginning.

Some continue into riding lessons, where they can build on the foundation they learned during camp. Others return for the next level of camp, continuing to develop new riding and horsemanship skills as they grow. Whether that's later this summer or next year, it's always exciting to welcome familiar faces back to the barn and watch their confidence continue to grow.

That's why, every single year, horse camp becomes the highlight of summer.
